IMAP or POP3?
- IMAP keeps mail on the server and syncs across all devices. Use this unless you have a specific reason not to.
- POP3 downloads mail to one device and can remove it from the server. Only suitable for a single-device setup.
Getting the exact settings
In cPanel, open Email Accounts, click Connect Devices next to the mailbox. cPanel shows the precise manual settings for your server and offers automatic configuration scripts for Outlook and Apple Mail.
Before your domain points to us
Use the server hostname (for example server.hostingsutra.com) in place of mail.yourdomain.com until DNS has propagated.
Common problems
- Certificate warning — you are using
mail.yourdomain.combefore SSL covers it. Use the server hostname, or wait for the certificate. - Cannot send — many ISPs block port 25. Use 465 or 587 and make sure SMTP authentication is enabled.
- Repeated password prompts — reset the mailbox password in cPanel and re-enter it exactly on every device.
